  • Supports energy metabolism in the brain*
  • Keeps nerves healthy and in repair*
  • Decreases free radical production in the brain*

Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALC) is a naturally occurring form of L-Carnitine, a vitamin-like nutrient synthesized in the body from the amino acids lysine and methionine. ALC plays a key role in the production of acetylcholine, an important neurotransmitter for brain and nerve cell function.
The Acetyl-L-Carnitine in this product is derived from a base of pharmaceutical grade L-Carnitine manufactured by patented, FDA-approved process that fully complies with the USP 25, FCC 4 and EU monographs. It is GMO-free, pesticide-free and BSE safe.
ALC serves as a transport molecule for “active acetate,” which is a source of fuel for metabolic processes that take place in cells. ALC carries active acetate (the “Acetyl” portion) directly into the mitochondrion, the cell’s energy-generating structure. Active acetate is used to produce cellular energy in the form of ATP. Both L-carnitine and ALC serve as fat carriers. Unlike L-carnitine, ALC readily crosses the blood-brain barrier, where it has specific benefits for brain neurons. When taken orally, ALC has been shown to promote healthy ALC levels in both blood and cerebrospinal fluid, demonstrating its uptake in the brain.

Best Acetyl-L-Carnitine contains Biosint™ Acetyl-L-Carnitine, which is manufactured in Italy by the reputable company Sigma-Tau. It is derived from a base of pharmaceutical grade Lcarnitine manufactured using an FDA approved process that fully complies with international monograph standards for carnitine production. Known as a global leader in L-carnitine research, Sigma-Tau holds numerous patents for production of L-carnitine, the derivatives of which are used in clinical trials.
Supports Cognitive Function
ALC has been studied for its effect on cognitive performance and emotional health in the elderly. In a single-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 481 elderly subjects taking 1500 mg of ALC per day were found to have improved scores on a memory test assessing cognitive abilities after 90 days of ALC supplementation. In addition to being known for its effects on recognition and memory, placebo-controlled ALC research has also shown better scores in scales measuring the mood of elderly people.
Supports Biosynthesis of Acetylcholine, a Key Neurotransmitter for Brain and Nerve Function
Brain function requires coordinated communication between brain cells. Neurons (brain & nerve cells) communicate across tiny cell-to-cell gaps called synapses. The passage of an electrical impulse from one neuron to the next requires a neurotransmitter to act as a messenger to pass signals to adjacent neurons. When an electrical signal arrives at the synaptic junction, the neuron releases a neurotransmitter into the synapse. The neuron on the other side of the synapse contains receptors for the neurotransmitter (that will bind it), triggering a series of chemical events to send a new electrical signal down the membrane of the receiving neuron. Neurotransmitters work together like an orchestra to transmit information throughout the brain and nervous system.

Acetylcholine is the most abundant neurotransmitter in the body, regulating activities of vital organs and blood vessels, and communication between nerves and muscles. In the brain, acetylcholine helps to facilitate memory and learning, as well as influencing emotions. ALC is structurally similar to acetylcholine— enough so that brain neurons stimulated by acetylcholine are receptive to stimulation by ALC.
In an experimental animal model, it was shown that ALC can furnish acetyl groups to be utilized during the natural biosynthesis of acetylcholine. ALC’s structural similarity to acetylcholine has led researchers to investigate its effects on mental function and emotional health.
Helps Supply the Brain With Energy Through Mitochondrial Efficiency
The acetyl groups donated by ALC can be used to naturally synthesize acetyl-CoA, the key substrate for energy metabolism in the mitochondrion. Acetyl-CoA enters the Krebs cycle, the mitochondrial pathway that generates cellular energy in the form of ATP. Age-related decreases in mitochondrial oxidative capacity are a well-known cause of aging, as the organelles and organs in the body begin to operate less efficiently without ideal ATP production. The effects of decreased mitochondrial oxidative capacity are especially prevalent in organs that require high-energy inputs, such as the brain and heart. Recent clinical studies have shown that ALC helps to promote and maintain healthy mitochondrial function.
Helps Uphold the Integrity of Intracellular Membranes
Phospholipids are structural components of brain cell membranes that regulate neuronal function. ALC has been shown to promote healthy membrane phospholipid metabolism in research subjects. Additionally, the acetyl groups in ALC are naturally utilized by the body to modify the activity of proteins in neuronal membranes. Through these means, ALC promotes normal membrane function, stability, and structural integrity.
Supports Nerve Growth Factor Production
The body produces specialized proteins called growth factors that are essential to the growth and repair of tissue. Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) prolongs the survival of neurons in both the central and peripheral nervous systems. As we age, our central nervous system experiences a decrease in the binding of NGF to neuron membranes. ALC has shown the ability to promote the maintenance of normal interactions between NGF and neuron membranes. Given to aged rats, ALC demonstrated effectiveness in promoting normal levels of NGF, and it helped maintain utilization of the growth factor in the rats throughout the duration of the study. Maintaining ideal levels of NGF is essential for the health of cholinergic neurons (nerve cells stimulated by acetylcholine), as cholinergic neurons lose some functional capacity due to a lack of NGF. In aged rats, ALC is known to promote the health of cholinergic neurons. In sum, such results suggest that ALC positively influences the maintenance of healthy and normal NGF activity.
Supports Healthy Brain Neuron Function
Several animal studies have revealed that ALC contains many biochemical characteristics that help neurons face the aging process optimally. ALC has been shown to raise levels of glutathione, a key antioxidant, in isolated mouse brain tissue. ALC also reduces blood levels of MDA (malondialdehyde), a free radical byproduct. Furthermore, ALC is a chelator of iron: it acts as a molecule that can naturally sequester iron in the body to prevent iron-mediated oxidative damage to cells. As a whole, data from in vitro and animal studies suggest that ALC is effective towards the maintenance of healthy brain neurons and normal neuronal energetic processes. This hypothesis is supported by human studies that demonstrate the potential of ALC to promote healthy brain function in elderly persons.

Boluoke - Canada RNA

Available at Vitamin Wagon
Boluoke 120 Count
Canada RNA

Vitamin Wagon is a proud to be a Canada RNA Certified On-Line Retailer

Boluoke
is an enzyme supplement known to benefit the circulation and characteristics of the blood. It is a promising new tool for those seeking to treat heart disease or proactively prevent it.  Boluoke contains the enzyme lumbrokinase, which has been shown to assist with the breakdown of fibrin, a protein involved in blood clotting. It has proven valuable in acute, sub-acute, and chronic conditions associated with clotting tendencies and poor circulation. Supplementing with Boluoke helps to maintain an optimal environment for healthy circulation. It is also recommended for people using hormone supplementation or birth control pills.
Boluoke® is the only lumbrokinase that has been thoroughly researched and its enzymatic strength is standardized. Other lumbrokinase products currently on the market often are citing Boluoke’s credentials and research, and are not disclosing the enzymatic strength of their lumbrokinase. On the raw material market, the price of lumbrokinase can vary by up to 15 folds, and the enzymatic strengths of various lumbrokinase also differ greatly.
In addition, lumbrokinase is a preparation containing multiple enzyme fractions, and the extraction and purification methods would determine the final compositions of the various enzyme fractions. Therefore, different products would have different lumbrokinase compositions and cannot be considered the same. This is also the reason why Boluoke does not significantly affect blood tests like prothrombin time (PT) or activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), while other lumbrokinase products may affect the test results.
Boluoke (lumbrokinase) is the only fully researched oral enzyme on the market supporting a healthier blood state, and it shows great promise in supporting a healthy coagulation/fibrinolysis balance in the body.  Coagulation system is a complicated and highly regulated system. Modern lifestyles often tip the balance towards hypercoagulation and rarely towards hypocoagulation. For most people, Boluoke can support the body in keeping the system in a more balanced state. Some practitioners are also recommending Boluoke for those who choose to be on hormone replacement therapy or birth control pills, and for those who could not tolerate standard preventative pharmaceutical drugs.
Suggested Use:
Take 1 capsule one to three times daily 30 minutes before meals.

If maximal fibrinolytic effect is desired, take 2 capsules three times daily 30 minutes before meals for 3 weeks or consult your physician for optimal dosage.

Warning:
Please consult your physician before taking this product or any other health supplement, especially if you are on any prescription medicine, are pregnant or have bleeding risks. People with known allergy to lumbrokinase should not take this product.

Methylcobalamin is the coenzyme form of vitamin B12 which supports the healthy structure and function of the nerves and brain. Several studies have found that people can have neurological signs and symptoms of a specific Methylcobalamin deficiency, even when serum B12, and blood tests which measure adenosylcobalamin acitivity, are perfectly normal. This is in large part because, while the body can store adenosylcobalamin (the other coenzyme form of vitamin B12) in the liver and mitochondria, Methylcobalamin is located in fluids like the cerebrospinal fluid and plasma, and is urinated out rather than stored.

While healthy people need just a tiny trace of Methylcobalamin to avoid a frank deficiency, a massive body of evidence powerfully supports the conclusion that supplementing with megadose levels of Methylcobalamin - and not regular B12 - can protect brain and nerve cells against toxins, help the healing of damaged neurons, and even provide powerful nutritional support in neurodegenerative diseases.
Paralyzing VirusesSeveral groups of scientists have investigated the use of Methylcobalamin in Bell's palsy, and they have uniformly found that Methylcobalamin speeds the recovery of normal nerve function. In two separate human trials, patients were given either prednisone alone (a steroid anti-inflammatory drug commonly used to treat Bell's palsy), Methylcobalamin alone, or the drug and the coenzyme together. Both trials found that the time required for complete recovery was significantly shorter for people who took Methylcobalamin (whether in combination with prednisone, or even by itself) than for those who took the steroid drug alone.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS)In a pilot trial, six people with degenerating MS received 60 milligrams of Methylcobalamin a day. The scientists compared the changes which took place in the patients' nerve function over the course of up to two years before the trial began, to the changes which happened during the six months in which the patients took Methylcobalamin. They found that there was a significant improvement in nerve function while patients took Methylcobalamin. Before Methylcobalamin, about one fifth of all measurements of nerve function suggested that the nerves were degenerating. While the patients were supplementing with Methylcobalamin, however, only half as many nerve measurements showed signs of degeneration. And while, in the time before the trial began, just 4% of the nerve measurements suggested that the nerve in question had improved, it was found that 18%, or four-and-a-half times as many nerve readings, showed signs of improvement while patients were taking Methylcobalamin.
Lou Gehrig's DiseaseIn a randomized, double-blind, controlled trial, 24 patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), better known as Lou Gehrig's disease, took megadoses of Methylcobalamin through intramuscular injection for just under a month at one of two doses (25 milligrams or 500 micrograms a day). While no results were seen in the lower dose, patients who took the higher dose of Methylcobalamin experienced increases in measurements of their nerves' ability to trigger responses in the muscles. Two patients' gaits were also noted to improve in the higher-dose group.
Alzheimer's DiseaseTwo trials have between them found that giving Methylcobalamin to people with Alzheimer's disease or related dementias (like Pick's disease) leads patients to have better interaction with other people and with the world around them, while improving mood and relieving neurological symptoms. The evaluation by the patients' familes and physicians was also improved. The findings in these trials on intellectual functioning were inconsistent: some scales showed improvements, but others did not. Both of these trials, however, used relatively low doses of Methylcobalamin.
A Good Guess: Parkinson's DiseaseThere's good reason to believe that Parkinson's disease is caused and/or accelerated by "excitotoxicity" resulting from overstimulation by the neurotransmitter glutamate. Drugs which lower glutamate levels, or which "tune down" its receptor, improve many of the symptoms of the disease, while drugs which stimulate the receptor make them worse.
So if Methylcobalamin protects neurons from the toxicity of glutamate, might it provide support for people with Parkinson's disease? Unfortunately, no clinical trials have yet been run to test this idea. But granted how safe Methylcobalamin supplements have proven to be, and its clear benefits in other neurodegenerative diseases, this essential coenzyme holds out hope as a potential way to prevent, and perhaps even to treat, this debilitating disease.
Caramelized NervesA string of clinical trials have reported that Methylcobalamin improves nerve function in people with diabetic neuropathy as demonstrated by things like improvements in the ability to detect gentle vibration, reduced tingling, numbness, and pain in the extremities, less feelings of "heaviness" in the legs, and the restoration of neurons' ability to efficiently transmit a signal and to properly regulate the heartbeat. Trials which have looked at the overall improvement of patients' neuropathic symptoms and signs have also reported remarkably positive results.
Eyes Under PressureIn a controlled study, 14 patients with normal-tension glaucoma were treated with Methylcobalamin, and their progress was compared with that of 22 other normal-tension glaucoma patients who did not take Methylcobalamin supplements. While 59% of the people not taking Methylcobalamin experienced worsening sight, 86% of patients taking Methylcobalamin experienced no loss of function.
The Squeezing SpineLumbar spinal stenosis is the compression of the nerves in the lower spine caused by arthritis, spinal degeneration, injury, or sometimes unfortunate genes. The squeezing of the nerves leads to pain on exertion in the lower back or buttocks, which is relieved by shifting position. In a single-blind, randomized controlled trial, 152 people with lumbar spinal stenosis were given the current standard care (physiotherapy, standard drugs, and education on managing their disease), and additionally either did or did not take Methylcobalamin. For whatever reason, the dose chosen for the trial was very low (half a milligram) compared to what has been used successfully in most trials pitting Methylcobalamin against nerve disease. At this low dose, there was no improvement in pain or in the doctors' evaluations of the appearance, sensation, or function of their nerves; however, despite the clearly inadequate dose, those people who took Methylcobalamin found themselves able to walk further distances without experiencing pains than people who were not taking it.
The Question of DoseIn general, most trials in which Methylcobalamin has been used to help people with various forms of diabetic neuropathy, non-diabetic neuropathy associated with uremia, peripheral facial paralysis (including Bell's palsy and Ramsay Hunt Syndrome), normal tension glaucoma and dementia (including Pick's disease and Alzheimer's disease) have used doses ranging from1.5 to 5 milligrams. On the other hand, trials involving victims of ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) and multiple sclerosis (MS) have used much higher doses, such as 25 milligrams per day for ALS and 60 milligrams daily for MS.
Note that in some cases only one trial has ever been performed, with only a single dose used, and the results are often preliminary; it's therefore possible that higher (or lower) doses might be more effective. Because of the well-established safety of Methylcobalamin, many nutritionally-oriented physicians are working with their patients using doses considerably higher than those used in the relevant trial. There are some cases where this has seemed especially prudent to some physicians.
For instance, the evidence suggests that Methylcobalamin is much more effective against Bell's Palsy when taken within days of the initial attack; at later times, a higher dose might be more appropriate. Likewise, the only trial of Methylcobalamin in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis used only 0.5 milligrams per day - and achieved only very minor results. It seems reasonable to speculate that a higher dose might have been more effective, granted the fact that nearly all successful trials in other neurological disorders have used minimum doses of 1.5 milligrams, and many have been higher. Discuss these issues with your doctor.
There are also several neurological disorders in which there is reason to believe that Methylcobalaminmight make a good supplement choice if your physician approves, but in which no clinical trial has been performed. These would include Parkinson's disease, tinnitus, Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), and people suffering with environmental illnesses who suffer with neurological signs and symptoms. In such cases, because we don't have formal human trials to use as a guideline, your physician will have to rely all the more strongly on his or her judgement.
